Chemistry and mineralogy: The Institute has high-performance laboratories at its disposal and possesses many years of experience in the field of chemico-mineralogical testing of input materials, cements, and the products made from them.

Environmental expertise: The Research Institute establishes environmental expertises that cover the entire process of cement manufacture and also include mortar and concrete. These comprise emission and environmental impact assessment, environmental impact audits, and also leaching tests performed on cement-bound materials.

Environmental measurements: The Research Institute operates a monitoring body that is notified in accordance with §§ 26 and 28 (Bundesimmisionsschutzgesetz, Federal Ambient Pollution Protection Act) in Germany. Moreover, this body has increasingly been carrying out emission measurements and performance checks on measuring equipment abroad.

Plant technology investigations: The Institute’s experts can avail themselves of state-of-the-art measuring equipment and possess ample experience in optimising cement manufacturing plants world-wide.

Certification: The quality surveillance of cements and hydraulic binders has traditionally been one of VDZ’s core competences. FIZ-Zert further certifies quality and environmental management systems. The Institute itself is accredited and certified according to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 17025, EN 45011 and EN 45012.
